Silver Wind Stables

August 2013
Silver Wind Stables

Silver Wind Stables is located in Edmond, OK and is home to over 40 POA familes . Ashley McKenzie, a POAAlurnni, is the owner and trainer of Silver Wind. Silver Wind focuses on promoting the POA breed and maintaining a family friendly environment. Ashley grew up riding and training at her family's boarding stable, Stoneridge Acres, and two years ago opened up a facility of her own just down the road. Silver Wind Stables has been very successful in the show pen. Last year, Silver Wind riders won 24 Congress Championships, including winning all four versatility classes and the overall versatility championship. They focus on training the all-around pony and rider. POAs are always in high demand, and Silver Wind Stables is always looking for high quality show POAs to add to their team!

Since so many families and ponies call Silver Wind home, we picked a few to "SPOT" light this month!

From the moment Conner Vega was introduced to POAs four years ago, he was hooked. He borrowed many different ponies of varying ages and temperaments as he learned how to ride. Luckily, he was given the opportunity to show KCB Kid Dunit, owned by the McDaniel Family, at the 2011 International Show where he won Res. High Point 8&Under Boy. This year, he finally has a show pony of his own. Chip off the Rock and Conner are looking forward to a great future together! They had an instant bond and are an excellent team. They are working hard this year and are excited to be a tough team in 2014!

Roseli began her love of PO As from a very young age as she watched her older sister Stephanie and her POA. This past year, Roseli got a pony of her own as a birthday surprise- JBC Diamonds are Forever. They are learning how to do all of the classes at the POA shows. Their biggest accomplishment so far was coming in second in a jumping class at the Mid-America Regional in a very large class! A year ago, neither pony nor rider really knew how to jump. (Actually, the pony knew how to jump, just most of the time decided not to go over the fence at the last minute!) They are also fast in games! Roseli is excited to continue her show career with POAs.

The McDaniel family has been well known in the POA world for years. Ashlee, aka Squishy, has already won International Championships on her ponies TNE Etched in Style and Pal Cara Mia. Since big sister Jolene Bertus graduated last year, RBR Hollywood Buns has been handed down to Squishy. They recently had their first show exclusively together at the Western Classic, where they took home High Point 9-12. They are already off to an amazing start, and will continue to be a great team.

Impulsive Decision, "Echo" received the best birthday present last year- her own little girl! After presenting Echo with Karlie, it took a little while, but Karlie finally realized that this was her pony! You can find Echo and Karlie practicing almost every day at Silver Wind. They really enjoy games, and Karlie has been learning to jump! We are excited to have this great new family as part of our Silver Wind team!

You may recognize Gracie as being ranked #2 overall in the country last year! Gracie moved up to the tough 9-12 division this year, where she continues to make her mark! Riding RBR Bunskipable, Gracie has already come home with numerous wins, and even a Res. High Point 9-12at the Mid America Regional! They are becoming a tough team to beat, and I am not sure if we can handle them running much faster in games! To top off her POA career, her family purchased RY Major Equity (One of the very best stallions in the breed), and will be expecting many nice babies from him next year.

Isabella was introduced to POAs when they came to Silver Wind about a year ago. Her family owns Dutch Major Sensation, a gorgeous yearling filly. She was blessed to learn to ride on KSs Crimson Tiger Two. Tiger went to heaven this spring, leaving us with a huge void to fill as we try to replace him. Bella is currently trying out an excellent new POA, and hopefully by the time this magazine is out, she will have a show pony of her own! She is a gorgeous and talented rider, and will surely make her mark in the show circuit.

Whether this family was ready or not, the Tumeys jumped into the POA breed this January when Ava won a 2 year old filly in a raffle to support Children's Hospital. The McDaniel family donated "Ellie", and were quick to help guide them into this breed which we all love so much. Shortly after, Ava was surprised with a beautiful pregnant broodmare, who later gave her a gorgeous bay colt named "Leo". As her love for POAs grew, the hunt was on for a trained show pony. Silver Mesa joined the family this spring, and already took Ava to a Res. High Point 8 & Under at the Western Classic . Ava is looking forward to many more shows, and to training her other young ponies. Their broodmare, Honey, is in foal to RY Major Equity.

Emma has been competing on the ultimate POA- Lookin Awesome in Silver. She is a beautiful rider, and has a great attitude. This team is tough to beat in the 8 & Under, and already brought home high-point at the Mid America Regional. They compete in all around events, but really excel in jumping. Emma was the only 8 & Under rider who placed in the 12 & Under jumping classes at the regional, with 15 entries! They have also won several Senior classes at our local shows. What a great start to your show career, Emma, and we look forward to many more years! A big thanks to the Van Oss family for letting us use "Awesome" until he sells.

The Benson family has been a POA family for many years. Grandmother Joan Benson took her three boys all across the country showing when they were kids. Rachel started riding when she was three, and has never looked back! This girl has no fear, and loves all animals. She was lucky enough to get CN Spot Me Some Silver this year, and has been cleaning up in the show arena! Rachel won the 8 & Under Highpoints at both the Rocky Mountain Regional and the Western Classic. Her favorite event is jumping.
