Six years ago, our family had an incredible opportunity to improve as well as enhance our breeding program by having a grandson of "INVITATION ONLY" (AQHA Leading Sire from 2006 to 2011 of top money earners) come to our farm! Although the colt was frail from running amongst older horses, Harry felt we needed to take a chance on this colt because of his pedigree. His name became "Black Tie Invitation" alias "Blackie". We turned him out in a nice lush green pasture with our band of mares who took very good care of him. It took 2 years before he started breeding, but---when it happened, it was such a blessed reward! One of the foals was out of our Santee Maria mare (Dam of Nicks Spittin Image) which happened to be her last foal as she died the next winter unexpectedly, but she had given us a gorgeous little stud colt who was named "NITE TIME INVITATION" as her lasting legacy. After that season we decided Blackie was ready for his next venture, so we sent him to Devon Knipp to get ready for the JPFC classes. The two of them went on and accomplished everything we had dreamed about and more! After JPFC we weren't sure what our next step would be, but Devon suggested letting Carrie Somerville have a chance with Blackie in the youth classes, so from Iowa futurity he stayed in Iowa to live for the next three years. Once again ... what a dual they became! Carrie and Blackie had made quite a name for themselves in the POA world. Unfortunately, Carrie graduated out of the youth last year and she and Blackie had to say their goodbyes, which was so very hard to see happen. A big decision had to be made and we decided to sell Blackie with breeding rights to the Hull Family of Michigan, since we had kept "NITE TIME INVITATION" a stallion also knowing he had the breeding of the Santee line on the dams side and the Invitation Only on the sire side. 2012 will be Morgan and Blackie's first year to team up together and hopefully the history of Black Tie Invitation will continue! Congratulations to the Hull Family on the Purchase of a great POA!
As a 3 year old in 2011, "Hank", as we call him in the bam, started his riding career with a bang! In early spring, he was sent up to Devon to break out for a few months. to get basics down and then when the weather broke, he came ho;me for Brady and Andy to finish for the show season. Both Andy and Brady rode him at the Mid-East Regional where he won and then went on to the 2011 International Show in St, Louis where he captured the title of High Point 19 &, Over and also was named Reserve Champion JPFC under the guidance of Brady &, Andy Chestnut with help and support from Harry & Jan. he then went on later that fall to be Reserve Champion JPFC again at the International Futurity in Iowa. Presently, Hank is in between riding and breeding, but hopefully will be back in the show ring this summer.
