POA Magazine Cover Story

November 2008

I cannot remember a time in my 20 years of life when I did not have horses. I started riding sitting in front of my mom in the saddle at 16 months old and when I was 3, I started riding on my own. When I was 8, I got my first POA, Ashley. Who is 28 now and enjoying her days of retirement in the pasture. I showed Ashley in 4-H and open shows and eventually POA shows until 2001. After that I moved on to many different POA's, but could never find the right one. In 2005 I was looking for a new pony when I came across a 3 year old mare out of Texas owned by the Mulhausen's. Satin had been shown only a few times in halter and was the 2003 Reserve International Yearling filly champion. I only took Satin to one show in 2005 and that was the World show in Eugene, Oregon. The next year my brother was diagnosed with cancer so I only got to show at one local show, where Satin stood Grand champion mare. 2007 was my last year as a youth and I decided that since I had been missing out on showing Satin to her full potential that I would hit as many shows as I could. I went to all of the local Oregon and Washington shows as well as the Western Classic and Rocky Mountain Regional and the Northwest Regional. I knew that after I aged out I didn't want to leave POAC behind because it has been such a big part of my life. So I purchased a weanling filly from the Gardner family named RY Zip and Vision. "Porsche" will be shown in the 2 year old JPFC classes next year. Satin has retired to the lead line division with my cousin, Hailey Reeves and every once in awhile I ride her in 19&over classes. Hailey and Satin have become quite the team and almost always win all of their lead line classes and have been high point lead line at every show they have been to this year. Next year they will move up to 8 and under and hopefully Satin can get her supreme, which she is about 400 timed points shy of.

This last March I also purchased a yearling quarter horse filly that is bred for reining and she will go into training this January so I look forward to eventually showing on the NRHA circuit.

There are so many people that have impacted my life in this breed and so many people that without, none of this would be possible.

First and foremost, the Lord for giving me the opportunity to be blessed with this wonderful talent and passion for these animals.

To my mom- Thank you for always believing in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. You have always been my support and my rock that has been there through all the good times and the bad. I love you and thank you again for everything you do for me! You don't know how my I appreciate you!!

To Scott- Thank you for all your emotional and financial support. You are more appreciated than you know!

To Grandma and Wayne- Thank you for always supporting and believing in me! And Wayne, Thank you for always making sure the horses have food and a clean stall to come home to after a long day at a show.

To Sarah- I honestly don't know what I would do without you at the shows. We have had some good times the past couple years and I was sad we didn't get to travel as much this last year, but next year will be different!! You are a great friend and competitor and I enjoy showing with and against you!

To the Gardner family- Your kindness and encouragement has been so appreciated by my family and I. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to own and show the sweetest baby.

To Jan and Dean Rodgers- Thank you for breeding such an outstanding individual. Without Satin I honestly don't think I would be showing POA's anymore. I am so grateful everyday that I have such a wonderful and giving horse.

To Hailey- You have so much potential and talent and you and Satin have been so successful in lead line together this year I cannot wait to see what great things you two will do in 8 and under next year! You are such a true competitor and you have the heart and talent to succeed and go far in this breed.

As we move into the next show year I cannot wait to see what great things await me and my horses! I look forward to seeing everyone and competing in my first year in JPFC!
