Ivy Lane and Mary Claire Demirjian
Ivy Lane
1986 - 2006
“There will never be another Ivy Lane…,” sobbed
Mary Claire Demirjian on the way home from the Fort Worth
Stock show this year. This was to be Mary Claire’s
last year in 8-and-under with Ivy, but sadly the year
ended before it began. Ivy died suddenly in Fort Worth
from a ruptured stomach. It was hard for an 8-year old
to take 800 miles away from home. Mary Claire grew up
fast that day. Remembering the good times and what Ivy
taught her has helped her to make it through this tragedy.
Ivy Lane is one of the most winning POAs to date at
the International – winning the Large Mare Stake
six times, retiring the Mare Traveling Trophy, and taking
her rider to highpoint all around and timed-event pony
at least four times each. The Lemmon family has many
saddles in their home from Ivy’s POA and Open Show
winnings. Before the Lemmon family’s success with
Ivy, the Sloan family had many wins at the state and
national level. Most recently, Mary Claire and Ivy won
many year end highpoint awards in Illinois. They were
highpoint 8-and- under girl in 2004 and reserve highpoint
8-and-under girl in 2005.
Ivy’s winnings are too many to list here, but
the most impressive Ivy trait is how she took care of
her riders. She was the ultimate “packer”.
You could send in any rider in any class and be confident
that Ivy would take care of business. Many times we were
asked at a show, “Where can I get one like her?” Ivy
built confidence in her riders and taught them what they
needed to know for the years ahead.
Ivy was bred and originally owned by the Schonfeldts
in Wisconsin. By JN Stand Me Grand and out of St Nicks
Tawyna Bars, Ivy was destined for greatness. The Schonfeldts
showed Ivy at the age of two when she went undefeated
for the entire year, a successful start to an amazing
show career.
Ivy Lane’s only offspring is sired by Mr. Respect.
Ivy’s Got A Little Respect was foaled in May of
2002. Annie, still a junior pony, has many International
Futurity wins to date. We will be forever grateful that
Ivy Lane was a member of our family. She instilled confidence
in Mary Claire and taught her well. Our time with her
was priceless. Ivy was one of those special ponies that
you only encounter once in a lifetime. She will be forever
missed by the Demirjians, Lemmons, Williams, Sloans,
and others who had the privilege to ride her. However,
her memory will live on in a special highpoint performance
award to be given at each International POA show and
in BJ Spahr’s book POA Pony of the Americas
The First 50 Years.
I know from our final minutes with Ivy that she felt
loved and was happy. She truly loved us and that 8-year-old
girl she “packed” around. Thank you Ivy for
our special time together!
There will only ever be one…Ivy Lane!
Loved and Fondly Remembered
Anne and Mary Claire Demirjian
Special thanks to the Lemmons and Williams. Without
your love and support, I can not imagine how we could
have made it home from Texas. Also, to the Getzendaner
family, I wish we could have met under better circumstances.
Thanks for everything! To All of our POA friends, you
all know who you are; we appreciate all of the words
of encouragement! |
